The Christmas Ceol Loreto Gig was a very enjoyable evening. Parents, students and friends filled the hall. The orchestra set the mood with a lovely medley of Christmas songs under the baton of Ms Flynn. The 1ABC Choir mentored by Orla Sweeney sang “Diamonds” beautifully. Well done to the solo singers, Aoibheann Corcoran, Deirdre Cleary and Tori Delahoyde whose performances were expressive and they all had great stage presence.
The Junior choir gave a delightful performance of Let it Snow, though the Music Department will be hoping they don’t get what they wish for when the London Tour comes around in January 2013!
Sophie Donnelly played a lovely piece on piano by Scarlatti, having received a High Achievers award for her excellent results in the Royal Irish Academy of Music examinations recently.
Nadia Grimes who has won many Feis Ceoil competitions played an exquisite piece on solo flute accompanied by Ms Macken. Ms Macken’s recorder consort played a lively Beatles number, When I’m Sixty Four! and the traditional Irish Music group played a lovely set of tunes as well.
The Iconic Dance Troupe, trained by Ms Ryan and recent prizewinners in the School Stars competition, performed a very dramatic pirate themed dance, with lots of colour, excellent props and fantastic choreography. Ciara Harford a world champion in Irish Dancing treated us to a lovely performance. The second year combined choirs sang a very seasonal Winter Song beautifully as well.
The First Year Drama Group were very entertaining with their Christmas sketch, written and directed by Ali Doran. We were delighted to welcome some past pupils back. Grace Dowling played a set of tunes on the accordion and a selection of tunes on the Irish harp accompanied by Gary on the guitar. Jane Lawrence played piano and sang a Rhianna song and later set the mood for Christmas with a magical performance of O Holy Night. We were intrigued to hear that she hopes to become a pilot next and is taking flying lessons!
The Senior choir performed Christmas Lullaby by John Rutter a lovely seasonal carol which they have submitted to Lyric FM Carols for Christmas and which was played on December 13th on the radio. They also sang Ring Christmas Bells and all the performers came back to sing a lively medley of carols for the finale.
