Class Projects

Each class undertakes a year-long class project such as Film Studies, Local History, Green Schools, SciFest, Community Links and Young Social Innovators.

Thursday Morning Module

On a Thursday morning, students usually choose to partake in one of a number of year-long modules. These modules are Drama, GAA Future Leaders, Junk Kouture, and School link. Due to COVID-19, all students in the year will participate in the GAA Future Leaders programme and will be asked to build their own personal ePortfolios using Google Sites.

Work Experience

Transition Year involves three weeks work experience. Students are encouraged to find work experience in areas that interest them and in areas that can help them build a pathway to a new future career. If possible the student should try to acquire three different work placements. It is very important that students start looking for their work experience during the summer holidays and not leave it until September. Work Experience will take place during the three weeks prior to the February midterm break. The dates for next year are: Monday 25th January to Friday 12th February 2021.

Optional Programmes

We provide a number of optional programmes to the students in Transition Year. These may include a trip to an adventure centre, a photography workshop, a driving course, Gael Linn course and the Public Access to Law course. Sports coaching courses may also be available.

There are also many opportunities for students to get involved with specific TY events and committees throughout the year.
