3rd Year Senior Cycle Subject Seminar/ Fair

 

On Friday third year students were provided with comprehensive information on all subject choices available at senior cycle. In the morning all students attended a seminar where staff presented powerpoints on subject course content and career path options. In the afternoon, at the subject fair senior students provided in-depth information about the reality of what it is like to study a particular subject. Third year students all agreed that the day was very helpful when deciding on what subjects to study for the  Leaving Certificate.

 

 

Transition Year Information Evening

All third year parents/guardians are invited to an information evening in the main hall on Monday evening at 7.30 pm.

World Book Day

 

On March 3rd  we celebrated  World Book Day. Part of the activities involved hosting a ‘Give a Book, Take a Book’ event in Room 14 at lunchtime. Students were free to bring a book from home to swap with another student in order to widen their English literature horizons.
There was also the opportunity for the whole school community to ‘Drop Everything and Read’ for 20 minutes, while the English Captains distributed World Book Day vouchers.
Students also enjoyed a  Wordle/Countdown competition where the English Captains called out a random sequence of 10 letters with the aim of students coming up with one 10 letter word, which of course, was connected to World Book Day.

 

Extracurricular

Hockey

 

Commiserations to the senior 1 team who played who were narrowly beaten by Mount Sackville in the 1A Leinster semi-final. The final score was 1-0, in a tough battle with plenty of chances for both teams. It was great to see such intense passion and skilled hockey on display. We would like to wish our other senior team all the very best in the 1B Leinster quarter-final on Monday in Wesley College.

 

Remembering the people of Ukraine

 

 

As you are aware, there is a developing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. This has disrupted the lives of countless innocent people.  Displacement, trauma and separation are commonplace, lack of supplies, medicines and food have exacerbated the problem. We are raising awareness of this crisis and its context in all Religion classes over the next week. For your own information, should you wish to access the PowerPoint, please click here.

 

Red Cross teams are on the ground now in Ukraine and will continue their work to repair vital infrastructure, support health facilities and help families with life-saving food and hygiene items.

This is a rapidly evolving crisis. The escalation in fighting brings further upheaval, loss and fear to people’s daily lives, including threatening to bring a halt to key essential services. 

 

  To support the work of the Red Cross and to offer humanitarian aid, Loreto Balbriggan will be fundraising on Friday 11th March. All monies will be sent via PayPal to the Red Cross where they will be used effectively on the ground and distributed to those directly affected by the crisis. 

 

All donations will be greatly appreciated , many thanks for your continued support at this time.

 

We continue to hold the people of Ukraine very specially in prayer, including the Mary Ward family living in Kyiv, Uzhhorod & Sredneye.
