Celebrating Student Achievement – End of Year Prizegiving Ceremonies
Over the past week, we hosted a series of Prizegiving Ceremonies, honouring the achievements, efforts, and contributions of students across all year groups. This much-anticipated tradition, which dates back to the school’s foundation in 1857, is a highlight of our academic calendar and a meaningful way to mark the end of the school year.
The celebrations began with the Transition Year Prizegiving on Wednesday, May 14th, followed by the 1st Year Ceremony on Friday, May 16th. Our 5th and 6th Year students were honoured on Monday, May 19th, and the week concluded with the 2nd and 3rd Year Prizegivings on Wednesday, May 21st.
Throughout the week, students were recognised not only for Academic Excellence and Academic Endeavour, but also for their achievements in Sport, personal development, and community involvement. The Mary Ward Award, named after our founder, was presented to students who embody the values of sincerity, joy, justice, freedom, and truth—principles that lie at the heart of our school ethos. In addition, a number of Perpetual Awards were presented to Junior and Senior students in areas such as Science, Music, Business, and Sports, acknowledging consistent dedication, creativity, and spirit across the school year.
While these ceremonies celebrate notable achievements, they also provide a moment to reflect on the diverse talents and contributions of all our students. At Loreto Balbriggan, we place great value on the individual journey of each student—whether marked by academic success, quiet perseverance, artistic expression, teamwork, or acts of kindness. Prizegiving is not just a celebration of success, but a recognition of effort, progress, and participation. It represents our commitment to an inclusive and supportive community, where every student’s contribution is recognised and appreciated.
As we bring another academic year to a close, we extend our warmest congratulations to all our students. We wish to thank them for the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment that they bring to every aspect of school life. We are proud of each and every one of them.
