Outstanding Achievement at the STRIPE Young Scientist Exhibition

We are delighted to congratulate our 2nd Year student, Farah Khaliq Rehman, who achieved an outstanding 3rd place in the Individual category of Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the 2026 STRIPE Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition on Friday. Farah’s project, titled “Can Plants Outshine Antibiotics?”, explored whether certain plants might offer natural alternatives to conventional antibiotics, a topic of real scientific and societal importance.

The STRIPE Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition is Ireland’s premier science competition for secondary school students and each year thousands of students across the country submit project proposal. Only about 550 projects selected to exhibit at the four-day exhibition, meaning Farah’s success places her among a very select and talented group of young scientists.

Farah was guided throughout her project by Mr. Higgins, whose support, encouragement and expertise helped her to develop and refine her research.

We are so proud of Farah and this brilliant accomplishment. We wish her continued success in future scientific endeavours.

1st Year Trip to STRIPE Young Scientist Exhibition

Our 1st Year students had a fantastic day out on Friday 9th January at the STRIPE Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, enjoying a wonderful mix of science, discovery and (of course!) plenty of freebies along the way. The trip gave students the opportunity to explore hundreds of exciting and innovative projects from schools all over Ireland, covering topics from science and health to technology and the environment. It was a great chance for our 1st Years to see how classroom science can be turned into real-world investigations, and to get inspired by the creativity and curiosity of students their own age.

The visit was especially meaningful as the students were there to support our three school projects on display this year. These were:

• Digital Puberty: Investigating How Social Media Shapes Maturity in Irish Female Teenagers Compared to Older Female Generations, by Jessica McEvoy and Aoife Bolger
• Spice Power: Uncovering the Antioxidant Champion in Your Kitchen, by Aarathya Thirupathi
• Can Plants Outshine Antibiotics?, by Farah Khaliq Rehman

Our students were delighted to see their classmates presenting their work to judges and visitors. It was a brilliant educational experience that combined learning, fun and inspiration, and we are very proud of all our students who took part in this year’s STRIPE Young Scientist Exhibition.
