A Week of Community and Celebration
Our 3rd Year students had an exciting and action-packed time at the beach, where they enjoyed a variety of games and activities, all organised by their 5th Year Senior Prefects. Despite the blustery conditions, the students returned to school energized and ready for their afternoon classes.
Following the beach activities, the students gathered in the Amharclann for a special assembly, where Ms. McDonough presented our newly elected Prefects with their Prefect badges. This marks the beginning of their important leadership roles within the school. Congratulations to our new team of Prefects, who will no doubt provide fantastic support to both their teachers and classmates throughout the year. We look forward to seeing them thrive in their new responsibilities!
European Day of Languages
Athletics
A group of enthusiastic 1st and 2nd Year students, accompanied by Ms. Power and Ms. Newman, proudly represented our school at the Dublin Schools Cross Country Race held in the Phoenix Park. The students gave it their all, demonstrating great determination, team spirit and potential. A special congratulations goes to Clodagh Meehan, who earned a well-deserved medal—a remarkable achievement given that there were over 180 participants in her race. This is a fantastic start to the cross-country season and we look forward to seeing even more impressive performances as the season progresses.
TY Events
On October 4th, our TYs and a number of very brave staff members will be doing something very different on their Friday night. Instead of going home at the end of the school day, we’ll be swapping warm beds for sleeping bags as part of our School Sleep Out, in support of Focus Ireland’s Shine A Light campaign. Currently, over 4,000 children in our country don’t have a safe place to call home. By taking part in this sleep out, we aim to gain a small glimpse into the challenges faced by young people experiencing homelessness. It’s a chance for us to reflect on the importance of home and to raise awareness about this issue. We invite you to support our school’s fundraising efforts by donating to our fundraising page. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to a future where all children have a safe place to call home.
JPIC Workshop
On Tuesday both TY JPIC modules participated in a workshop on Global Citizenship, Justice and Documentary making.
The Education Officer from Trocaire facilitated a very interesting exploration of global justice issues, including climate change, war, refugees and the Sustainable Development Goals. The group also explored how good documentary making can have a positive impact raising awareness of justice issues and bring about transformation.
Students were invited to submit their own original documentaries to The Trocaire documentary making competition ‘The Right Focus’.
Last Tuesday and Friday all TY classes attended Malahide Castle for an Orienteering Challenge using the App Map Run 6. The students had a great day and were lucky to soak up the last of the summer sunshine!
