December 22nd

Each year our students and staff gather together to celebrate one of the most joyful occasions on our school calendar, the Nativity and Carol Service. Although we have been unable to perform our carol service in the traditional way this year, our students and teachers have been busy preparing and recording performances over the past few weeks, determined to mark this important liturgical event.

This year, we share with you, our first-ever virtual Nativity and Carol Service. This new format has presented us with fresh opportunities and allowed us to join with the wider Loreto community, as Ms. Flynn has combined our own talented choir with the choir from Loreto Bray. In this time of social distance, we have found ways to unite and strengthen bonds near and far. The theme of this year’s service was ‘Star of Hope’  which reminds us that even in the darkest of days there is always a reason to hope and that the light will return and bring brighter times.

We hope you enjoy our Carol Service, and that it helps you celebrate the coming of the festive season. Congratulations to all involved, particularly our musicians, singers, and readers, whose heart-warming performances did such a wonderful job of lifting our spirits in challenging times and conditions. Many thanks to the Religion and Music departments for all their hard work in preparing a joyful and uplifting service. Loreto Rumbek was established in 2008. By choosing to locate in South Sudan, the Loreto sisters continue to support the vision of foundress Mary Ward in an area where girls would otherwise have limited opportunities for education. Ms.O’Neill and the student council welcomed members of the local St Vincent De Paul Society to the school on Monday 21st. The girls then presented a cheque for €5,5oo that had been raised on December 11th during our Christmas Spirit Day.

Congratulations to the 6th years who, yet again have produced another hilarious teachers’ show. Many thanks to all the staff who wholeheartedly participated!

The school will be closed from December 22nd and will reopen on Wednesday 6th January at 9.10 am. We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
