On Monday the Fifth year ‘Gamechangers’ group travelled  to the Trócaire Headoffices in Maynooth where they were presented with their Certificates for their win in the International Educational Gaming Competition that took place in Denmark before Christmas. The girls presented their original board game on Human Rights to the Trócaire staff and were praised for their ability to present a complex understanding of Rights, Empathy, Justice  and Global links in an enjoyable fun game that is accessible to all ages. The Trocaire Education team will use the game in their forthcoming workshops for teachers and students. Pictured with the girls are John Smith the Director of Public Engagement, and Stephen Farley the Education Officer.

Transition Year Work Experience continues this week. Our students have been welcomed in a variety of institutions and businesses across the country and abroad. Students find this experience an invaluable part of the transition year programme and we are grateful to all who have accepted our students. Many thanks also to all the staff who volunteered to visit the girls in their various locations. This week Aisha Alameen was given a talk about Seamus Heaney by Katherine from the National Library of Ireland. Heather and Faye Mc Gloughlin gained experience in Fegan’s 1924 Café.

This week French culture and language was celebrated in our school. First year French students enjoyed a French breakfast followed by bingo and a quiz led by our French language assistant Laury. Laury is from Martinique and works with all French classes. Other year groups exercised their French skills with quizzes, bingo and other activities! Everyone made a big effort to use their français.
