Further Extracurricular Success

Fingal Student Enterprise Programme

Loreto Balbriggan has had a long and very successful history with  Fingal Enterprise Awards and this year the school’s success continued with two of our student enterprises scooping two of the top six prizes at the  Awards ceremony last Wednesday 15th March. Congratulations to Manaal Garana and  Izzy Gaughan whose company ‘Reglossed’ came 2nd the intermediate category and to Molly Smyth, and Jemma Thomas of ‘Plantable Posts’ who came 2nd in the Senior Category All students put in a huge amount of hard work and effort into their ‘Dragons Den’ style presentations while also making sure that their stalls were the most eye catching and appealing. Well done to all our other participating student enterprises; ‘A&E Made’, ‘Pinsable’, ‘Deco Case’, and ‘FFE Haircare’ who made it through to this stage of the competition, a huge achievement! Special thanks to Ms. Gartland and Ms. Synnott for their continued support, encouragement and guidance to the girls.

 Fóroige NFTE Dublin Regional  Finals

Following on from their success at the Fingal Student Enterprise competition,  Molly Smyth and Jemma Thomas and their brilliant business ‘Plantable Posts’ won the Foroige NFTE Dublin regional category for their work creating, marketing and selling eco-friendly greetings cards from recycled paper with wildflower seeds embedded in the paper. The girls will now progress to the national semi-finals where they will get the opportunity to pitch their product to a panel of established entrepreneurs.

The success continues for our Junior, Minor and Senior A teams who all won their respective Northside League finals on Wednesday. A special mention to our 6th year students; Aoife Gleeson, Caoimhe McCann, Nicole Ford, Aisling Patterson, Hailey Clark, Hannah Tighe and Erika Mitchell who played their last match for Loreto Balbriggan. Their contribution and dedication to hockey over the last 6 years cannot be understated, and we will all miss them as they move forward with a bright future in hockey ahead of them.

On Monday there were more great wins for the 1st year players and Senior B teams in the Northside League playoffs versus Skerries Community College. Both teams are now through to the finals on March 29th.

A 2-2 thriller decided in extra time with a game winning goal from Muireann Bagley to crown Loreto Balbriggan, Regional League Champions for a second successive season!
Other goals from Georgia Ford and Muireann Bagley set the team on the road to victory. A special mention must be paid to Nayeli Ruvalcaba who was voted player of the match for an outstanding defensive display.
