Paralympian Guest Spaeker

Today the TYs had a very special guest speaker today! Greta Streimikyte – who is a blind Irish Paralympic athlete who competes in 1500 metres at international level events. Greta was invited to the school as part of the Dare To Believe TY Programme. Greta spoke to the students about her life and athletics career to date.

Greta Streimikyte made her International debut for the Irish Para-Athletics team at the 2016 European Para Athletics Championships. That debut came shortly after Greta received her Irish passport in 2015 and she celebrated in style by winning the Bronze medal at those championships in Grosetto.

Greta’s European championship display secured her a seat on the plane to Rio in 2016 as part of Team Ireland for the 2016 Paralympic Games. Greta secured her place in the final of the 1500m with a third place finish. In that final she showed her huge potential by running her personal best to finish in fourth place overall.

The Clonliffe Harriers member has continued her development as a world class athlete culminating in her gold medal winning performance at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin.

Honours:

2016 European Championships, Italy (Bronze Medal)
2016 Paralympic Games Rio
2018 European Championships, Berlin (Gold Medal)

The students did a meet and greet and had a quick round of Q&A afterwards. What a fantastic visit!
